Dental Implants
Life today is complicated enough without contending with the challenges of tooth loss, which make eating, speaking and smiling confidently a problem. Perhaps the most beneficial tooth replacement option available today, dental implants are almost like having your natural tooth again.
We offer dental implants in our Randwick dental practice to replace a single missing tooth or a full arch of teeth. Dr Brendan Scott has undergone extensive training in dental implantology, equipping him with advanced clinical and surgical expertise in implant placement and restorative care. With a focus on precision, longevity, and patient comfort, Dr Scott offers tailored implant solutions to restore missing teeth and enhance both function and aesthetics—supporting long-term oral health and confidence.
Benefits of Dental Implants
Unlike dentures, which can slip or move, dental implants are a stable solution for tooth loss.
Maintains Healthy Bone – The dental implant screw replaces the tooth’s root and integrates with the jawbone. In addition to stability, the pressure placed on a dental implant from chewing stimulates bone and prevents bone shrinking, called resorption.
Long-Term Results – When cared for properly, dental implants can last decades – or even a lifetime. We can replace the dental implant crown if it wears down or becomes damaged. The foundation – the implant post – remains in place.
Excluding bone or gum disease, dental implants are an excellent long-term tooth replacement choice.
Natural-Looking – We meticulously design dental implant crowns to match the colour of the surrounding teeth for a seamless-looking smile.
Dental Implant Procedure
Any of our dentists (Dr Darren Scott, Dr Sean Dersch, Dr Brendan Scott, Dr Vivienne Tye and Dr Udayha Kumar) will initially assess whether a dental implant is a possible option for you. Then you will see Dr Brendan Scott who perform a full evaluation utilising 3D x-rays and digital scanning to identify the ideal location for the dental implant screw. If additional procedures, such as bone grafting, will improve results, we will consult with you about your options.
The surgical procedure itself will take approximately an hour. Most patients report minimal discomfort. After the implant fixture is placed, full integration into the surrounding bone occurs over three or four months. Once the implant is fully integrated we will fit the custom dental implant crown to the implant fixture, completing your smile.
Implant-Retained Bridges and Dentures
Rather than altering two healthy teeth to place a fixed dental bridge, implant-retained bridges rely on dental implants to suspend artificial teeth, completing the smile.
Implant-retained bridges may give patients an alternative to a partial removable denture.
Patients who want additional stability that is beyond what traditional dentures offer may choose to anchor their denture in place using four to six dental implants per arch. Dental implants provide a locking mechanism that prevents shifting and embarrassing denture mishaps.
Caring for Dental Implants
Single dental implants require the same diligent home hygiene and professional dental appointments as natural teeth. Periodontal disease is the enemy of dental implants and can cause them to fail.
- Brush teeth twice daily
- Floss or use interdental brushes at least once daily
- Have regular professional check-ups and cleans
At your 6 monthly check-ups, your dentist will examine the dental implant and surrounding gum tissue to ensure the good oral health and proper function of your dental implant.
